Have a wood-boring insect infestation in an oak tree.

Oak is about 40 years old I guess. About 10 holes, 6 feet off the ground, perfect circles approximately a tenth of an inch in diameter. Tree is showing no symptoms of distress other than the holes. Sprayed some insecticide in each of the holes.

Any idea what it might be?

What degree of danger from minimal to terminal?

If short of terminal, should I get an expert to look at it?
